Junto

Ben Franklin isn’t my favorite guy – after reading his autobiography I found him surprisingly unlikeable – but we have something in common besides liking lightning storms. He had a Junto.

He wrote: “I… formed most of my ingenious acquaintance into a club of mutual improvement, which we called the JUNTO.

A pretty official way to do it, perhaps, but he had cool friends, hard-working and interested in everything, who challenged each other and learned with and from each other.

By the way, here’s a great story of how he got one person into the group when they’d formerly hated each other. Kill ’em, not always with kindness, but with requests.

There is very little positive in my life that I can’t attribute to my friends and what I’ve learned from them.

Think about it… who’s in your Junto?

Heroes have an uncomfortable way of being people, don’t they? Feet of clay can be very disillusioning.

Well, YOU are definitely in MY Junto! And isn’t it funny how people from history can turn out to be jerks once you read more about them? So not a fan of Thomas Jefferson, after getting to know more about him as a History major in college!
