The Christmas Questions: No. 1

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to the Christmas season! This year, I’m collecting answers. (Feel free to be anonymous whenever you want.)

Here we go. First. What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

Mine are a trifecta:

Edited to add one more category: Muppets! The Christmas Toy and Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas!

Yours?

My favorite scene is with Colin Firth and Lucia Muniz in the restaurant. I weep like the soppy girl that I am. Every, every, single time.

Neil Crump

Love Actually is my favourite – such a great movie. The scene with Andrew Lincoln and Keira Knightley with the boards is THE most romantic scene ever. It is amazing.

Kevin A. Barry

Is LOVE ACTUALLY a chick flick? I couldn’t sit through it.

Favorite Christmas movie is probably also a trifecta:

1) Claymation stuff (e.g., Santa Clause is Coming to Town; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, etc.)
2) Bells of Saint Mary
3) It’s a Wonderful Life

I would’ve added “About a Boy” or “Definitely, Maybe” in there but wasn’t sure if they qualified as Christmas movies.

And I think 99% of the people who hate it hate it because of TBS. What movie is good 24 hours straight?

Well. Apart from a Top Gun-a-thon. That’d be pretty sweet. And maybe a Dirty Dancing Day.

TBS, are you listening??

Sarah Morgan

I’d totally forgotten about MCC. “Light the lamp, not the rat!” Hee!

Maria

Here are my top 5:
1. Elf — because I love smiling. Smiling’s my favorite πŸ™‚
2. Muppet Christmas Carol
3. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer — I’d take a Charlie in the box any day
4. The Santa Clause
5. A Christmas Story — oddly, I am not sick of it yet.

Christine

1. It’s a Wonderful Life – I’ve seen it at least 100 times and I still cry at the end.
2. A Charlie Brown Christmas – just because.
3. Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas – a retelling of “The Gift of the Magi” with Muppets. Edited from the original on the DVD version.
4. Bells of St Mary’s – a little hokey, but good
5. Christmas Carol – with Alastair Sim

A Christmas Story is an institution in my family (I even have the red rider bb gun) but as good as it is…I’m over it. TBS made sure of that.

Erin

I like Elf and A Muppet Christmas Carol.

And Miracle on 34th Street. (BTW, i am asking Santa for a house this year, too.)

Karen

Crap, forgot one of the best – Die Hard.

(Come on now folks. I know it’s not a traditional Christmas movie, but that’s what great about it!)

Karen

Love Actually, Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, It’s A Very Merry Muppet Christmas, Elf

@Robin – I think people either love or can’t stand Christmas Story. So, normal or not, you’re not alone πŸ™‚

April F

I like The Santa Clause. Reminds us of the magic of the season that seems to slip away as we get older. And it’s funny.

Robin F

I love LOVE, ACTUALLY, too. And I really like the new version of MIRACLE ON 34th STREET.

And sorry, Sac, but I hate, hate, hate A CHRISTMAS STORY. Does that make me weird? Oh, wait, according to Sarah, weird is good… and normal. So that’s okay! πŸ™‚

Paul C

There is no better ‘Christmas’ movie for me than Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. Making the most of every day in terms of your everyday relationships conveys a powerful theme for the season.

Anne

How about a humor category? Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation

Sac

A Christmas Story
